About Playback

Playback is pioneering the future of watching sports. We believe sports are at their best when enjoyed together — with your friends, at a bar, or in the stadium — but online streaming remains a frustratingly solitary experience. Playback is rethinking sports streaming as a community-first activity, building a home for sports creators (think podcasters) and their communities to hang out watch live games together, all perfectly synced.

Founded in 2019, we’ve raised over $20M from top-tier investors. Come help us build the future of live sports!

Why work at Playback?

At Playback, you’ll have the opportunity to build a potentially category-defining product in a massive market. As an early hire, your contributions will have a tangible impact on the future of our product, and you’ll have the opportunity to define your own role as we grow.

We’re well-funded, have product market fit, and our user base is highly engaged and growing quickly — our average user spends over 3 hours and 15 minutes in a Playback room every week! And in a world of buzzwords and cliches, we genuinely believe that our product enriches our users’ lives by providing meaningful social experiences. As one of our users described it, “I love this - normally I am yelling at the TV by myself, now I get to yell with everyone else!”

What you will do

As a Product Designer at Playback, you’ll be a creative force behind our user experience and interface design. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design features that are engaging, intuitive, and scalable for sports fans around the world. This is an opportunity to have a significant impact on both product strategy and the user experience at an early-stage company.

Who you are

  • User-centered: You have a deep empathy for users and a passion for creating intuitive, delightful experiences. You thrive on gathering insights and translating them into designs that solve real problems.
  • Collaborative by nature: You enjoy working closely with a variety of departments, especially product and engineering, and understand that great design is the result of collaboration.
  • Creative and strategic: You can dream big while keeping an eye on the details. You balance creativity with practicality, and you’re able to design for a fast-moving, constantly evolving product.
  • A self-starter: You’re comfortable working in a startup environment where you’ll be expected to take ownership and lead design initiatives. You know how to manage your time and work autonomously, but also know when to reach out for collaboration and feedback.
  • Adaptable and open to feedback: You welcome feedback from teammates, users, and stakeholders alike. You know how to iterate quickly and pivot when necessary without losing sight of the big picture.
  • Passionate about sports or social experiences: Whether you’re a hardcore sports fan or just love designing engaging social products, you have a passion for building community-driven experiences.
  • Detail oriented: You sweat the small stuff and believe that pixel-perfect design matters as much as big picture thinking.

Your responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end user experiences for web, mobile and TV platforms, from concept through launch and beyond.
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and marketing to define and iterate on features that enhance creator utility, fan engagement, and social interaction.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that communicate your vision and can be tested with real users.
  • Develop and maintain design systems that ensure a cohesive look and feel across all of Playback’s digital experiences.
  • Contribute beyond the product by designing assets for marketing campaigns, social media, and collateral that support product features and company-wide objectives.
  • Balance business goals with user needs, leveraging user research and feedback to make informed design decisions.
  • Work with frontend developers to ensure pixel-perfect implementation of your designs.

Your skills & experience

  • 4+ years experience as a UI/UX or Product Designer in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • A strong portfolio showcasing mobile and web projects that demonstrate a user-centered design approach.
  • Proficiency in Figma (design and prototyping), Photoshop, Illustrator, and the Adobe Suite in general (motion skills are a plus)
  • Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, interaction design, and UX principles.
  • Experience working closely with developers to implement designs and iterate based on feedback.
  • An ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines, prioritize effectively, and adapt quickly.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Employer-sponsored healthcare and 401(k) plans.
  • Generous work from home stipend.
  • Remote-first. We have team members in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Philly and beyond.
