About Playback.tv

Playback.tv is an independent video tool for working with exact moments inside YouTube videos. Playback.tv relaunched in 2026 under new ownership and is not affiliated with the former sports livestreaming company that previously operated on this domain.

With Playback, you can mark the exact start and end of a moment, combine selected moments into a Cut, compare multiple moments side by side, slow or loop video for closer study, and share everything with one link.

YouTube owns the video. Playback owns the moment.

Most of what makes a video worth discussing happens in a few seconds.

A release. A foot on the line. A pause before an answer. A difficult guitar riff. A pronunciation you want to hear again.

YouTube is built for watching videos. Playback is built for working with the specific parts that matter.

Paste a YouTube link, mark where the moment begins and ends, and create a Playback that opens directly on that range with the tools needed to study, explain, practice or share it.

The original video remains on YouTube and plays through YouTube’s official embedded player. Playback does not download, copy or re-upload the video.

What is a Playback?

A Playback is one exact moment from a video.

Unlike a normal YouTube timestamp, which tells someone where to start watching, a Playback defines both the start and end of the moment.

You can then:

  • slow the moment down
  • loop it
  • step backward or forward in small increments
  • add a Take explaining what to notice
  • comment on a specific instant or range
  • share the exact moment with someone else

Playback Cuts

A Cut lets you choose exact moments from one or more YouTube videos, put them in any order, and share one link that plays only those selected parts.

Instead of sending several videos with instructions like “watch 4:36 to 4:49, then open this other video at 2:10,” you can build one Cut containing the moments you want someone to see.

Cut out the filler. Keep what matters.

Compare video moments

Compare lets you place up to four video moments side by side and control them from one Playback Remote.

You can line moments up on the same instant, play or pause them together, slow them down, loop them, switch focus, and flip between two moments to examine the difference.

Compare is designed for situations where seeing two moments together is more useful than watching them separately.

Built for looking closer

Playback can be used for:

  • Sports analysis: compare plays, mechanics, calls and techniques
  • Music practice: loop difficult passages and practice them at slower speeds
  • Language learning: repeat short phrases and pronunciation examples
  • Dance and choreography: study movement and repeat difficult sections
  • Scene study: examine performances, reactions and editing choices
  • Teaching and research: point people to the exact evidence inside a longer video

What Playback does not do

Playback does not host, copy, download or re-stream YouTube videos.

Videos continue to play through YouTube’s official embedded player. Playback adds tools and context around the video so people can work with specific moments more precisely.

If the original video becomes unavailable on YouTube, the corresponding Playback, Cut or Compare may no longer work.

The previous Playback.tv

Playback.tv was previously used by an unrelated sports livestreaming company. That service shut down in 2025.

The current Playback.tv is a new, independent product under different ownership.
