About the previous Playback
If you followed a link here, it probably pointed at a replay, a room or a creator page on the previous playback.tv. That product shut down in December 2025. The domain later changed hands, and what you are looking at now is a different product with no connection to the company that ran it.
What happened to the old links
- Replays were recordings of live sessions hosted by that service. They were its own files, not links to videos elsewhere, and they did not survive the shutdown. There is no copy of them here.
- Creator pages such as playback.tv/name are held rather than reassigned. Anyone who used one can claim it. Nobody else can register it.
- The old blog and help pages are gone. We have not republished them.
If you cited a replay
A number of articles quoted things said during sessions on the old service and linked to the recording as the source. Those recordings no longer exist, and we cannot restore them. If you are the author of such an article, the original quote stands on your own reporting; the link now lands here so readers can see why the source is unavailable rather than hitting a dead page.
What playback.tv is now
A place to show someone an exact moment in a video. YouTube can share where a moment starts; this carries the end point too, plus the speed, the loop, and what you wanted someone to notice. People can react at a precise instant and discuss it underneath.
There are three things you can make:
- Playback — one exact moment. Mark it, slow it down, loop it, share one link.
- Cut — several moments, in your order, from one video or many. One link plays only those parts.
- Compare — two to four moments side by side, lined up on the same instant, driven by one remote.
We never host or re-stream video. Every Playback plays through the official player of the site the video lives on.
Most of the links that reach this page came from sports writing, so Playback for sports analysis is probably the nearest thing to what you were looking for. It is also used for music practice, dance and language learning.
